Hi, I have connected my EDGE Modem with my PC, that is connected at COM3 port. Now I want to open the COM3 port from my C# application so that I can send SMS through GSMCommunication API. But when I try to connect, It shows 'Access Denied COM3 port'. I am using Windows 7 operation system. Hi Arefin, Actually I have not met this issue before.

I have a Windows XP Pro SP3 host machine running a Windows XP Pro SP3 guest machine. The host machine has one serial port, COM1, that I need to use in the guest machine.When I add the serial port to the guest machine and try to start it, I get the following error: Failed to start the virtual machine xxxCannot open host device 'COM1' for read/write access.Check the permissions of that device (VERRACCESSDENIED).Unknown error creating VM (VERRACCESSDENIED).What are some of the things that might be causing this problem? How can I check 'permissions' on a serial port?

I have an external device (running a small Linux-based OS) that I need to log in to via the Windows 7 command line. The device is connected to COM1 with a USB-to-serial cable. How do I do this without HyperTerminal (which doesn't come w/7)?

I know how I'd connect to a remote IP address or similar location via ssh, but I'm not very familiar with Windows & am having a hard time finding info on how to replicate this particular function of HyperTerminal.Edit:All three suggestions (PuTTy, KiTTy, Tera Term) just returned gibberish, suggesting to me that maybe there's something wrong with the device, my cable, or I just need to read up on how serial ports work some more, I don't know (turned out to be a weird connection speed issue). But it's good to know there are alternatives to Hyperterminal (I really wanted Tera Term to work, too - the vintage 1999 brilliant turquoise website and Y2K disclaimer were fun).
