As for this cal I would deff recommend it. Algebra has a lot of find X or Y type questions and this will make short work of all of that. You can enter easy or difficult system of equations and it will solve for the unknowns. Also anything like for simplifying or factoring can be learned easier with this. I am taking Higher math 2 for engineers and the class material as does any higher math, is loaded with algebra material.
I would recommend this calculator as an investment for college when you are in high school. As others have pointed out, it has a steeper learning curve than the 84, so you will need to read your manual and online guides on how to use it. Whatever you do, don't get the color 84+ C. It has a color, higher-resolution screen but the same processing capabilities as the 84+ so it runs more slowly, especially when graphing complicated equations. Be aware though that some instructors do not allow CAS calculators on tests, so be sure to check before buying the CAS version. I'd get the Nspire CX CAS. It will do all the algebraic operations needed for Algebra II and college algebra.
It will also do calculus operations and solve some differential equations. It works more like a computer than other TI calculators and will take more time to master. I have used the TI 83, 84, 85, 86, 89 Titanium, 92 and Nspire CX CAS.
I currently use the 89 Titanium and the CX CAS. I find the 89 easier to use but the CX CAS is more versatile and more powerful. User's manuals, tutorials and videos are available on line. I'd find out what calculators are allowed in your classes before making a decision. Well the calculator has different options such as: to write a list and spreadsheets, graphs, and a spreadsheet to put values of x and y and then graph.
You can write notes and save a couple of formulas too. So I think these are good things for Chemistry classes. But as far as I can tell this is a good Calculator for Algebra, Calculus, Probabilities and Finances. It is more prepared for that. But who knows, try it. Either if its not that good for Chemistry at the end you will have an excellent calculator for anything else.
This is a great calculator and it is pretty easy to learn to use. I have a TI-83+, TI-89, and TI Nspire CX CAS. I like the 89 and the CAS. There are 2 Nspire models that look alike: the CS and the CAS. If you can afford the price difference, get the CAS.
It can solve complex problems and provide a 'pretty-print' answer. In either case the Nspire is better for students, although the 89 is geared a just bit more toward engineering applications. The 84 is able to do quite a bit, more than enough to get you through high school and college, but the other models I have talked about are far superior in every possible way. The TI-Nspire CX CAS is the best calculator for people who need help with math. 'Don't ask, Don't tell that you are using it', because as other have said they might say no to it use in High School. If there is some way to designate this when you enter the data, then, yes, a calculator, given the right software, can produce the right output. If there is no way to designate this, then your calculator is merely rounding off or truncating your answers. I wouldn't recommend the TI-83 because it's the slowest of the bunch in terms of processing speed and memory, which can really be a nuisance when you're pressed for time. If you are moving up from a ti-89 some of the commands are the same. My only true complaint is the touch pad sometimes the little pointer goes all over the place when you click on something so I got used to arrow to what I want and just pressing enter. This is no ordinary calculator but rather a quite smart math hand-held computer and as such, it is less intuitive in how best to use it. It has a steep learning curve but there are tutorials on the TI website and other websites on how best t o use it. If you are looking for a good general purpose graphinc calculator tis may not be the one to choose, but if you are looking for a high-powered math solfinc hand held computer, this is about the best that money can buy. However if you have a hi-tech cellphone you may have an advantage because you will be accustomed to menus and submenus; the calculator is organized in this fashion. You will have an even greater advantage if you have experience with a basic scientific calculator (the ones with math functions) and experience with software such as Word and EXCEL. If you still wish to give the calculator a try, consider getting the book TI-Nspire for dummies. I own the book and find it useful for my first experience with the calculator. The Teacher PC Softare comes in a separate package that you would have to read education.ti.com. They have a section dedicated to teachers and you must be able to prove that you are a teacher and the reasons you need it and so forth.
